Burrowing owls are so named because they live underground in burrows that have been dug out by small mammals like ground squirrels and prairie dogs.
Height around 10 inches. Weight: about 6 ounces
Unlike most owls in which the female is larger than the male, the sexes of the burrowing owl are the same size, probably `cos they live in tunnels.
